Happy 4th of July!
Friday, July 2, 2010
I remember as a kid going with my Dad to the fireworks stand. It was one of many that would pop up all over the city in various parking lots, usually grocery and convenience stores. Oh and yes, you can sell “safe and sane” fireworks in a gas station parking lot! Scratching my head on that one, what a show that would be!
He would buy a small assortment of fireworks, fountains, snakes, poppers, smokers and of course sparklers.
Ah Sparklers, deemed the proverbial “safe” firework for children. I remember that even though I was fasinated by them, I was also scared of them. After all it was a hot rod on fire in my hand. The sparks would feel hot landing on my hand and feet.
It wasn’t until I was an adult that I realized just how dangeous they are. Did you know that sparklers burn at temperatures of approximately 2,000°F!

Caiden knows, because when he was just 2 years old, the hot tip of the rod fell off the sparkler and landed right on the top of his foot. He had a nasty burn that took forever to heal.

I hope you have a great 4th of July weekend, eat lots of good groceries, enjoy time with friends and family. Please BE SAFE!
