Saltine TOFFEE!
Thursday, December 8, 2011
I learned about this on Facebook last week, OH MY Goodness!!! This is SOOOOOOO GOOOOOD! And SOOOOOOO EASY!!! A very special thanks to Katie Downing for reposting this wonderful goodness from A Southern Grace “Saltines have never had it this good!” WOW! It’s like a Heath Bar or … I don’t know just delicious goodness!!!
I don’t even eat sweets that much anymore, but I knew I had to try this. It actually took me longer to read the recipe than to make it! Here ya go! ENJOY!
Recipe:
1 cup BUTTER
1 cup BROWN SUGAR
2 cups CHOCOLATE CHIPS (Semi-sweet)
1 pack/tube SALTINE CRACKERS, about 40
- Preheat oven to 350ºF.
- Line cookie sheet with foil and spray with non-stick spray.
- Lay a flat layer of crackers out on the foil.
- Melt the sugar and butter until a boil is reached. Reduce the heat and simmer, uncovered, for 5-6 minutes or until mixture is thickened and sugar is completely dissolved.
- Pour this mixture over the crackers and spread to coat evenly.
- Bake for 5-8 minutes, or until the toffee becomes bubbly.
- After removing the pan from the oven, let it sit for 3-5 minutes.
- Sprinkle on the chocolate chips, let them soften and melt, and then spread them into an even layer (if they don’t melt just stick them in the warm oven for a minute).
- Let cool. If you’re in a hurry put it in the refrigerator until hardened.
- Break into pieces the size of your choice, I like to use a pizza cutter because my hands are too hot and the chocolate melts.
